On October 5, our team of five high schoolers presented their print ad at the Advertising Futures Competition as part of Advertising Week 2011. Since the assignment was to address both physical activity and diet as part of the Let’s Move initiative, the team chose to bring electronics and nutrition together as the basis of their idea. Pushing it further, they thought of putting nutritional labels on the back of our favorite gadgets to show the full impact of convenience on our health and well-being.
While the judges ultimately chose another ad from over 30 schools, we stand behind the strong work the students presented. Besides coaching and gentle pushes in the right direction, their ad is just that–their ad, their words, their creativity. In a short amount of time, they managed to put together a photoshoot, write (and rewrite) copy, and put it all into layout.
All of the students received a huge insight into what we do at Organic, and the world of advertising at large. At least one of the students now knows advertising is where she wants to be. And that’s the greatest feedback we could hope for.
Thanks to Sal Barone, Jason Paul, Kayoung Lee, and everyone else in the New York office that donated their time over the last few weeks. We’re looking forward to participating again next year.
