A Royal ‘eDo’

Beth Yourself

With the UK’s Royal Wedding just two days away, Buckingham Palace is doing everything it can to drum up excitement, especially amongst youngsters.  In a recent poll by British newspaper the Sunday Mirror, barely half of respondents ages 18 to 24 were excited about the wedding, compared to 68 percent of those over 65. So far the royal family has planned a YouTube livestream, Flickr pool and even Clarence House, the prince’s official residence, will cover the entire event via 140-character tweets.

Great start, but if the Royals really want to attract a younger audience, they need to launch a full online campaign.  We at Organic have created a special Royal Wedding Digital Ecosystem Task Force just for the occasion.  We will work night and day (but not fortnight, for that is too long) until Wills and Kate tie the knot.

Okay, this is really just a chance for us to gorge on Cadbury Creme Eggs and show off our homemade Victorian-style hairpieces.  Anywho, our first batch of digital initiatives:

New iPad App Allows Wedding Guests to Choose Reception Seating

Who It’ll Attract: Those “maybe attending” wedding guests who feel the ceremony just isn’t… interactive enough.

Pros: Well, you can choose your own seat on Virgin Atlantic, your own room at the Savoy, and your own barstool at Doctor Who’s Tardis NerdBar (coming soon, I hope?), so why not your seating place at the Wedding of the Year?

Cons: Mad rush for everyone to sit around Kate (duh), while Prince Charles’ table is empty (duh, eesh).

Streaming Wedding Video Allows for User-Generated Comments à la “Pop-Up Video”

Who It’ll Attract: Anyone who misses the popular ‘90s VH1 show that broadcast music videos along with little trivia bubbles popping up every few seconds.

Pros: Will increase user time on site, as everyone wants to see what crazy comment FootballMom78 comes up with next.

Cons: Everyone ends up ragging on the Duke of Edinburgh and the ridiculous pieces of flair all over his outfit.

Viewers Vote on Who’ll Star in the American Remake of the Royal Wedding

Who It’ll Attract: Red-, white- and blue-blooded Amurricans, particularly the coveted teen girl and lazy Hollywood screenwriter demographics.

Pros: More shiny, beautiful people on shiny, beautiful screens.

Cons: SPOILER ALERT: It’s totes Taylor Lautner and, due to some hacking by her nerdy older brother, Allyson Markle, President of the Team Jacob Fan Club – Schenectady Chapter.

“-Beth Yourself” Microsite Makes Anyone Look Like Her Majesty

Who It’ll Attract: Fun for the whole family!

Pros: Instant new (and timely!) Facebook photo.

Cons: “Um, dude?  I think you’re supposed to Photoshop your face on there… You got the wrong body part.”
