The Best Thing Since Soy Bomb

This started as a serious and somber post based mainly on Internet privacy and how much we should expect, if any, until I tried to add the finishing touches during the Grammys. Funny, I don’t normally do the Grammy thing. I’ll get my fill of most of those artists at daddy-daughter dances or on Kidz Bop remixes. That’s not criticism, just preference.

But, I learned a little something when I tuned in tonight. First, I should look into that Antebellum Lady. Second, Bieber is still best left to my kindergartner. And finally, the newcomers and legends I admire most not only play this event, they do it together.

Tonight I watched Mumford & Sons give way to the Avett Brothers, then combine forces to back Bob Dylan for a rousing version of Dylan’s own “Maggie’s Farm”. It was a folksy, bluesy string explosion. High energy, soulful and rich – like nothing I’ve ever seen on the Grammys. Then again, the last time I actually caught the Grammys in full was probably the last time Dylan performed.

It was 1998. Bob shared the stage with the Soy Bomb, Ol’ Dirty Bastard pulled the original “Kanye West” on Shawn Colvin, and Paula Cole flipped us all the bird.

It’s time to forgive.
