As a fan of science fiction, it pains me to see the latest in rebranding and marketing genius from my beloved network–a switch from the sensible truncation of “Science Fiction” (Sci-Fi) to SyFy, a name that doesn’t really mean anything. It’s not an abbreviation for anything, it eschews the well established roots of the genre and well, it just seems plain silly. I’ll need a reason to watch this network after Battlestar Galactica ends, and this is not it. I don’t get it. Here’s a link: http://redesignrelated.com/post/87022865/sci-fi-syfy-rebrand-redesign

Yep, there’s an example of unnecessary rebranding. It may have worked when CourtTV changed its name to TruTV to gain a wider audience, but this will probably alienate (no pun intended) its core audience of guys who look like Jeff Albertson from the Simpsons. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comic_Book_Guy
Seems to be that your beloved Science Fiction station is attempting to move away from their Science Fiction roots. They are probably negotiating the rights to rerun Desperate Housewives
get ready for slight to increasingly more aggressive schedule changes as they take advantage of their License loopholes.
It is getting a lot of play in the market….isn’t that the idea?
If they started with it, but to switch? They’ve got books and stuff with the old brand.
Maybe it tied to some trademark type issues also? SyFy is more unique than SciFi…
