Escaping the Scourge of Voicemail

Simulscribe_1SimulScribe has come up with an elegant
solution to one of my pet peeves – voicemail and the ridiculously laborious and
time wasting process of retrieving voicemail messages.

I just signed up
and tested the system and it works really smoothly. They provide you with a
call-forward number that you program into your (mobile or landline) phone.  When
someone leaves you a voicemail, their system converts your voicemail messages
into text (using some very cool voice recognition technology) and emails you the
transcribed message and a digital audio file of the message to your email with
time-stamp and caller ID info attached.  You can now simply read and/or listen
to your messages the same way you do with your regular email.

The company
has been featured in the NY Times, WSJ and most recently in “The Next 25” in
Business 2.0

I wonder if it’s unethical to forward what might be a personal voicemail to an unknown third-party and then send the transcript unencrypted over the public Internet. Seems like you should warn callers before activating this thing.

Im using a similar service by the name of spinvox. They convert to tex/email just like simul, but offer a wide range of other voice to text services. Spinvox is also offering a 1 year free trial.

There’s a service called Grand Central that includes this feature with their main service, which consolidates all your phone numbers into a single one. It’s a great service, but I’ve often thought they should consider unbundling some of their features and offering them a la carte.

This sounds backwords to me. Who would rather READ than listen? Screw the reading. That’s also the program withTOO MANY websites–even those created by creatives–too much reading, y’all. Static pages with reading. Imagine watching TV and have to read the dialog. Oh yeah they did do that–in the beginning.
The Internet is no longer in its beginning. Forget this Silent Screen crap. It bores me to tears how lame MOST car manufacturer websites are! Likewise, MOST creative agencies. Where’s the creative? A few Flash swooshes of headline copy is NOT creative. This is a dynamic medium.
    Oh well.
