Goodbye Vanity Plates, Hello Cars

Porsche
Porsche has taken customization one
step further. Now you can “give your Porsche its own identity and unique name” –
you can even bypass the name and go straight to messaging the world behind you
with words like “Thanks daddy” or “My third”.

When the people over at Adbusters
see this, they’ll choke on their shade-grown, fair-trade, organic, soy-milk
lattes and walk with just a slightly heavier step in their black-spot
shoes.

    Very intersting post.
IMHO it underlines two distinct and very strong trends in what I call “bottom up brand management”: “de-branding” (where the consumer ostensibly delete the original brand) and “me-branding” (where the consumer overimpose “his” brand to the original one).
of course the first trend brings a negative bias towards the original brand whil the second has an extremely positive one.
