Although I’ve never seen anything formal written about it, I’ve always assumed that manufacturer’s rebates are deliberately designed to minimize the rate of redemption. The manufacturer forces you to work for it: gathering up the two feet of receipts from Best Buy, ruining the chance to reuse the packaging by cutting the UPC off the box, digging around for some identifying code from the product itself.
This seemed to be the case when I bought a Series 2 TiVo last month. But for $150 back, I was intent on outwitting the system. Imagine by surprise and delight when I received a tracking confirmation email from TiVo, directing me to this site. It shows my rebate status with elegant simplicity. Once again, TiVo hits it out of the park.

Sorry Charles, I just write about Tivo rebates. I have nothing to do with getting your money back to you.

God Bless TiVo. If only they’d launch in Canada already and those half-wits at Rogers would support CableCard.
TiVo really wants their customers to be happy. I have 4 TiVo’s on my account and they’re not even in the same household, yet I get the discount they offer for having more than one machine signed up for service. I’m sure they can tell that they’re calling in for guide data from different cities, but don’t care, so long as I’m paying and giving them business.
So go ahead and get one for your Mom and sister, at a discount!
I have not received my rebate yet and would like to know where it is.
