In Italy, when babies are born we either hang a blue ribbon (for a boy) or pink ribbon (for a girl) outside the front door. In the U.S., proud fathers to pass out cigars, friends send flowers and bring food, and families hang signs on their doors: "It’s a boy" or "Its a girl."
Whilst reading Russell Davies’ blog, I came across a novel birth announcement:
Steven Johnson (of Everything Bad Is Good For You and more) recently became the father to a third boy: Dean Berlin Johnson.
Instead of flowers and food, Steven asks readers to: "link to this page, and drive this post
up Google’s results for the word "Dean."…I think it would help him get
a head start in the world to have a lot of pagerank right out of the
gate."
So no blue ribbon for baby Dean or cigars, flowers and food for his family. Nevertheless, what a way to get a head start in getting your page ranking up on Google; what a great way to increase traffic to Daddy’s blog.
What’s next I ask? A virtual baby shower or romper room on MySpace?
