Rhythm & Hues (the effects house responsible for the lip-syncing animation in the Babe movies, among other things), demonstrates how they used 30 year old footage of Marlon Brando to upgrade his performance for Superman Returns.

By recreating his features in 3D, and using the old performance as a starting point, they are able to animate convincing new dialogue.
