Brands on MySpace

I wrote an article this week on ClickZ about brands on MySpace.  The best part of it died on the cutting room floor and that’s the long list of links to entertainment, sports, automotive, electronics, and food and beverage brands that are using MySpace to tell their story.  Check it out.

Entertainment

  • X Men 3: The Last Stand: This profile has more than 3,000,000 friends. This launch was supported
by significant advertising on the site, including the first MySpace
homepage takeover on the release date. In the spirit of full
disclosure, Organic did the media work on this campaign and some
    creative
         elements.
  • Family Guy: This profile has more than 800,000 friends.
  • Wedding Crashers: This popular profile has 72,000 friends and the viral mash-up for the film was a huge hit.
  • The Ringer: This profile movie has 255,000 friends
  • American Idol: Can you believe that this show has only 19,000 friends listed on the profile ?
  • Always Sunny in Philadelphia: ()
This show is having a comedy competition on their page that ties into
the show.  The profile has 16,000 friends.

  • When a Stranger Calls: This page profiles a character in the movie and is a very popular profile with 146,000 friends .

Sports

  • Adidas Soccer:  In roughly one day, the profile signed up 25,000 friends.
  • Nike Soccer:   This profile, older and more popular than the Adidas site, has 39,000 friends.
  • Nike Women: This profile highlights some interesting Nike ads targeted at women and has only 4,400 friends.

 Automotive

  • Dodge Caliber — Pig & Bear:
This profile has roughly 10,000 friends for a brand new nameplate.
Organic, BBDO, and PHD worked on this campaign on behalf of
    DaimlerChrysler.

  • Honda Element:  This popular profile — with 45,000 friends — asks users to create wallpapers for MySpace profiles

Also, see the T-Mobile Sidekick III profile.

  • Swifty says:

Man, Starbucks gets no love. Funny that some generic high school gal would have much more friends than some of these companies.

  • Ryan says:

X-Men is so popular because it would unlock a feature enabling you to have more than a Top 8 friends.

It’s no secret that major media networks and brand marketers are rushing to figure out how to take advantage of consumer generated media to promote television programming, movies, other products and services. Mike Kingdon has compiled a hefty list of

  • Andy says:

Nice list. If that’s not reason enough for other brands to get on MySpace then perhaps the following will be:
“In the world of MySpace, Sony is a single Sagittarian that doesn’t want kids, Nike is 6’2” and doesn’t like sluts and Google is a middle-aged woman who has met Fabio.”

  • Dabitch says:

Hehe, we made a list too before, and came up with a few others that are also on myspace. see here:

  • My Hot or Not says:

The MySpace could be a very good target market for marketers, as the X Men 3 profile has shown. It will only get better as more people join.

  • Mike says:

The number of “friends” is irrelevant. Marketers should look deeper than a top level metric. For example, the Nike Women page may “only” have 4,000 “friends” but I would bet that the conversations taking place are more true to the brand or whatever campaign this supports. Jack in the Box has 96K? So what? What does it mean? It’s about the conversations and interactions, not the adds.

  • Matt Martone says:

Great post. Corporations are also posting profiles on myspace to assist in their efforts to connect with and attract top performers to their workforce.
The US Marines do it. More + profile here.

  • barry says:

Myspace seems like a great way to promote brands and continue campaign experience. The issue is trying to get a hold of anyone that works at myspace to build one of these branded webpages. We have been trying repeatedly over the past few days to track down anyone. It seems they like money but not that much.

  • ANIMA says:

Hey, I’ve been searching a while for a list like this, and I’m really grateful, thank you so much.
I was wondering if you can email me @ doorsoflight@gmail.com for any other sites you know that have a poplar list of myspace profiles.
    Thanks again :~)
