The cold in the American Midwest today chilled my hardy Canadian soul and visions of SXSW danced in my head. Then I found this...something to make sense of both my conditions. The new CBC Radio 3 online wears the same sweater as the old R3 broadband designs we all loved, copied to death, and mourned when they mysteriously disappeared. This version is lean, more web 2.0, but retains the beauty of it's former self. The constructed visual journalism has been replaced by podcasts and a blogging format that makes me wonder what the CBC unionists were thinking when they went on strike for so long this summer. The long strike could have been the moment when consumer generated media overtoook big broadcaster on the outside lane. Canada could have finally out-media'd it's Mum and mentor BBC. Alas, it didn't. We remained very Canadian and prayed for arbitration...but not before blogging and podcasting a bit on the side just to show gov.org who's boss. LOL. Anyway, I digress. The thing that makes me so happy is that I found SXSW on CBC and it looked like home and it was good. And the music was good. And very quickly i didn't give a toss about SXSW, I was kickin' to my peeps and loving the power of my MEC hoodie and the internet.
